There's a mitzvah of coming to the Holy Temple 3 times a year. For the 3 pilgrimage festivals. Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkahs. It's hard for a person to say that they really experienced Jerusalem if they weren't here for the 3 pilgrimage festivals. Some people say that they came to Yeshiva for a week or two, and when I ask them if they experienced the 3 pilgrimage festivals they say, no I had to get back for my 3rd cousins' dogs' bark mitzvah.
